🎁 10 Ways to Upcycle Christmas Gift Bags
If you’re like me, you probably have a growing stash of Christmas gift bags tucked away — too nice to throw out, but maybe piling up a little too high! Every year after the holidays, I collect all the bags from under the tree and save them for another day.
Instead of letting them sit in storage, why not turn them into something completely new? In my latest video, I’m sharing 10 creative ways to upcycle Christmas gift bags into décor, crafts, and useful items you can enjoy all year long.
Supplies
Christmas gift bags (any size, any design)
Scissors
Craft knife or paper cutter
Ruler
Mod Podge (matte or gloss)
Chalk paint or acrylic paint
Paintbrush or foam brush
Packing tape (for thinning paper)
Cardstock or scrap paper
Craft glue or glue stick
Hole punch
Twine, ribbon, or string
Page protectors (for placemat project)
Sandpaper (fine grit)
Wooden pieces or scrap boards (for décor projects)
Brayer or old gift card (for smoothing out Mod Podge)
Gather Your Gift Bags
Start by rounding up all those Christmas gift bags you’ve been saving or check your local thrift store, where you can often find a big bundle for just a few dollars.
Pick a few with your favorite designs, colors, or patterns even the ones that are a bit worn can be reused in creative ways.
Prep Your Materials
Before crafting, take apart the bags by cutting along the seams so you have flat panels to work with.
Save the ribbons and tags they’re great for other small projects.
If your bag paper feels too thick, try the tape trick from my video to make it thinner and easier to decoupage.
Get Creative!
Now for the fun part turning those gift bags into something totally new!
In my video, I share 10 different ways to upcycle them, from handmade cards and gift tags to framed art, garlands, and more.
