3D Printed Popup Wallet

After looking at the prices of popup wallets, which, for $30, are already rather unknown to begin with, we decided to make an entirely 3D printed popup wallet, which only costs ~$0.60. The concept of the popup wallet is to make lives easier when taking cards out of the wallet, by making cards pop up individually and easy to take out. The mechanism is intuitive and works like a charm with enough sanding.

Supplies

A 3D printer with filament is kind of necessary to make this. A modeling software is also necessary. We used Inventor Professional for this project.

Print the Parts

Print the attached STLs, preferably vertically. The lever should be printed on its side.

Try to minimize warping, but if the parts do it's not the end of the world.

Put the Parts Together (Lever and Lid First)

The lever goes in the hole on the side of the wallet, and the lid slides into the prongs at the top. Make sure to rotate the lever to lock it in the hole.

Put the Parts Together (Internals Second)

The internals go inside the actual wallet, with the "stairs" pointing up.

Sanding or trimming down the parts may be necessary to actually get the parts to slide together. Depending on your printer, this may or may not be a problem.

Insert Cards

The wallet can support up to 10 cards, but may require more finesse with the lever to make it work properly after more than 5.

How to Use It "Properly"

The lid is strong enough to not open when it's upside down, but depending on your printer it may be too strong for the cards to open. It is recommended to raise the lid before you get your cards.

To actually use the wallet, push the lever down when it's inserted all the way. The internals will still rise with the lever partially out, but it is better to keep the lever all the way in as the internals might get in its way.

If you're using any more than 3 cards, it is recommended to pull the lever partially out and then push it down.

Enjoy!

Enjoy your new, cheaper, faster, and easy-to-use wallet!
