Start by taking apart the somke detector and removing the circuit.
Step 3: Cut
![16 008.jpg](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/FZ6/CSSV/FUNOXAX8/FZ6CSSVFUNOXAX8.jpg&filename=16 008.jpg)
Now cut away all of the area and the aluminum casing in the plastic, keep the wires and the IC.
Step 4: Solder
![16 010.jpg](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/F3U/LGM2/FUPUPK32/F3ULGM2FUPUPK32.jpg&filename=16 010.jpg)

Now solder a wire to the tall wire, solder one switch lead to that, and solder a wire from the IC to the other switch post. Don't ask me how i figured this out, i just stumbled upon it. Now desolder the 9 volt clips, remember wich is wich. Solder the corresponding wires from the 9 volt adaptor.
Hint: ( The connectors will be opposite of the 9 volt polarity )

Now place the circuit in the box, cut a hole where the "speaker" will be. Also cut a hole for the switch.
Step 6: Glue

Now glue the switch in place, then plug in the 9 vot battery.
