Approach Warning Device

I made a bike approach warning device. Attached to the rear under the luggage rack , it alerts me when a vehicle (car or bike) overtakes me.

Features:

  1. A buzzer will sound an alert when detection is triggered.
  2. Low power consumption for long battery life.
  3. Using a JSN SR-04T ultrasonic probe with detection up to 6m.

The assembly is simple to complete and does not require any special instructions.

The core of the system consists of an ESP8266 D1 PRO module connected to the JSN SR-04T sensor. It controls the sensor and activates the buzzer.

A switch is used to activate the sensor.

The program is based on the document “datasheet-sen-uh-sr04t-v3.pdf.” It also explains in detail how the sensor works.

I added the buzzer control to it. The device’s sensitivity is adjusted by the wait time between two measurements. I chose to remove the wait time for maximum responsiveness.

The sensor works with all controllers (Arduino series, Wemos, ESPxxxx, Raspberry Pico, etc.).

The device operates for nearly 60 hours in continuous mode (to test battery life).

Coclusion

I ride my bike a lot, and I can’t always keep an eye on my rearview mirror. Plus, it doesn’t tell me how fast someone is approaching. With so many bikes on the road and the high speeds of electric bikes and scooters, adding a warning system has become a necessity.
