Avatar Inspired Coasters

Who doesn't love Avatar? My son is a cool Avatar fan. He also loves chocolate milk. I wanted to make something that is very rustic, handmade and goes along with the Avatar theme. I couldn't think of anything better than these 'Avatar Inspired Coasters' with a cup of hot chocolate milk. Join me in making these durable and attractive coasters.

1. Wooden Tumbling blocks

2. Wood Glue

3. Ruler (or scale)

4. Oil Paints (Red, Blue, Green, Yellow and Black)

5. Paint brush

6. Pencil

7. Octagon template

In this step, I first picked 2 blocks (image 2) and on the side added some wood glue (image 3). Stuck these 2. Then, I added glue to the third block and stuck it along these 2. Now the first part is ready with 3 blocks (image5). I then continued to make 4 such parts (image 5-8). Kept 2 horizontal and 2 vertical to get a nice pattern (image8). The first coaster is now ready. Repeating the same steps (images 2-8), I now built 4 such coasters (11-14). Ready to go ahead.

In this step, I first choose the octagon template (image 2) and to mark this using a pencil in the center of the coaster (image 3). Then, I picked black color oil paint and completely filled up the octagon (image 5-6). Later I colored the triangular corners with the same black color (image 7-8). With this the foundation of the coaster is ready (image 1)

In this step, I drew a freehand image of the fire symbol (image 1) on the central black octagon with pencil.

In this step, I drew a freehand image of the air symbol (image 1) on the central black octagon with pencil.

In this step, I drew a freehand image of the earth symbol (image 1) on the central black octagon with pencil.

In this step, I drew a freehand image of the water symbol (image 1) on the central black octagon with pencil. As a result, all the 4 coasters with the 4 symbols are ready (images 2-3).

In this step, I colored the fire symbol (image 1) on the central black octagon with red oil paint. As oil Paint takes 24+ hours to dry I left it untouched until the paint was completely dry and ready for use.

In this step, I colored the air symbol (image 1) on the central black octagon with yellow oil paint. As oil Paint takes 24+ hours to dry I left it untouched until the paint was completely dry and ready for use.

In this step, I colored the earth symbol (image 1) on the central black octagon with green oil paint. As oil Paint takes 24+ hours to dry I left it untouched until the paint was completely dry and ready for use.

In this step, I colored the fire symbol (image 1) on the central black octagon with blue oil paint. As oil Paint takes 24+ hours to dry I left it untouched until the paint was completely dry and ready for use.

My son and I enjoyed hot chocolate on these lovely coasters. Does this inspire you??
