Basketweave Lacing

We were waiting at a convention for 2 hours before it opened.

I was getting quite bored - there was nothing to do/see at all.

I decided to re-lace my shoes, after lacing them a few times I came across this neat pattern, I call it the basketweave. (I have since found out it is Lattice lacing)

It is simple and works quite well - it tightens easily and stays quite tight after knotting off.

Because I ride BMX I have been looking for a large pattern to leave me with minimal ends and it was still practical - this suits me to a tee.

Anyways, lets get started!

I am using a shoe with 6 holes, you can use a shoe with more but it has to have an even amount of holes or you ill have to modify the pattern and skip a hole.

Start by threading the laces through under the flaps of the shoe on the last set of holes.

Make them even and move on to the next step!

If you have 6 hole shoes like me you will need to count three holes from the bottom and thread the lace through the top of the relative eyelet like shown.

Don't thread it through anything else yet!

Now you need to thread the lace under the flap and out the next hole like shown.

If your shoe's tongue has a little flap of fabric for the laces to go through read on, if not, skip this step.

Thread the lace back down and through the hole on the middle of the tongue like shown.

Now you need to thread the lace (keeping it on top) through the second eyelet from the bottom like shown.

Again, you will have to thread it under the flap and up to the top eyelet.

By this stage you should have 5 free holes, 2 on the bottom right and 3 on the top left.

Now comes the harder part, you have to take the right lace and thread it under, over and then under the three laces you have threaded.

Keeping it on top you have to thread it through the first of the three holes like shown.

Now it is time to thread it under the flap to the next hole along and then back down the three lace bars.

This time you will have to go over, under and then over.

If you have the middle flap of fabric you will have to go through this AND under the other lace.

Thread it through the last two remaining holes following the pattern of the other laces.

Finally you have to take the last lace and thread it through the top hole going under, over and then under the three laces again.

This will finish the lace off, slip your foot in - tie the knot and then show off your new lace style!
