Battle Fish
A popular game from my childhood —and still today— is “Battleship.” In German it is called „Schiffe versenken“, a tongue-twister is then “Fische verschenken.” (Give away fish) Say that ten times!
Battle Fish is now here! For 2–5 players.
Game concept: The fish stinks, and you’re trying to get rid of it. But don’t just throw it away! Giving it to your neighbor is better! The thing is, the other players want to get rid of their fish, too. Who will be the winner?
A game almost like Tic-Tac-Toe: simple, easy to carry, and with infinite possibilities!
Supplies
Here's what you'll need:
- 36 fish in 4 colors.
Made of paper, cardboard, acryl, wood (hand made or with a laser cutter), or printed on a 3D printer. If you want to 3D print them, I've got the file for you right here. You can adjust the size yourself.
- A small bag to store them in and for drawing them at random

The Rules
Each player blindly draws 7 fish from the bag.
One after another, each player gives one stinking fish to another player, another fish must be thrown away into the bag
but: the two fish must be of two different colors.
- If you don’t have two different colors, draw again from the bag or — if it’s empty— skip your turn.
- You have only one fish left? Well, you need two, one to give and one to dump. Take one from the bag.
- So keep an eye on the number and colors of your other players' fish!
The winner is the player who has given away all their fish.
Have fun!
Extension
If you’d like to play with more people,
you could increase the number of players to 7 and put 48 fish in the bag instead.
Additions
The user eastfamilyreddish was kind to make a new fish design for his laser cutter. Enjoy!
