Symptoms of Fault
Head gasket failure, coolant loss, white smoke from the exhaust, engine overheating, Milky oil, rough idling or misfires, bubbling in the coolant reservoir, loss of power
The Fault
Head gasket failures can be tricky and expensive to diagnose
Leak detector kits can be pricey for single-use at home or difficult to use. Garages can offer lengthy and costly checks to diagnose head gasket failure.
The Solution
Diagnose head gasket failure using the cost-effective and easy-to-use X8R kit
The X8R kit comes in two variants: "The Essential Kit" - ideal for at-home use and comes with 100ml fluid, enough for up to 20 tests. "The Professional Kit" - heavy-duty tool and comes with 500ml fluid, enough for up to 100 tests. Ideal for garages, workshops and mobile mechanics.
We use two different coloured fluids in our kits: pink for diesels and blue for petrols. We use two colours opposed to one to give the most accurate and effective results.
The X8R kit comes with a specially designed rubber bung. This bung is the best design on the market as will fit all coolant reservoirs*. The base of the bung is dual-lined to provide a flexible and air tight fit for reliable testing.
Vehicles Affected
Our kits will fit all vehicles. We recommend measuring the diameter of your coolant reservoir cap against the measurements of our bung to ensure it will fit.
You Will Receive
1 x Tool kit
1 x Rubber bung
1 x Bottle of petrol or diesel leak detection fluid
Supplies
No tools are required to carry out this repair.

Take off the coolant cap and insert the bung and tool into the coolant reservoir.
Ensure you do this from a cold start. Do not attempt to take off the coolant cap if the vehicle has recently been driven.

Essentials kit: pour in up to 5ml of leak detection fluid, just enough to enter both tanks.
Professionals kit: pour in the leak detection fluid up to the "level" line.
Remember: pink fluid is for diesel, blue fluid is for petrol.

Start the engine and rev the vehicle for a few minutes. If the liquid turns yellow this will indicate carbon in the coolant.
