Measure out the dimensions you want for your dollhouse, then cut out the surfaces that make up the house with either cardboard scissors, or if available, with a laser cutter. Make sure they are the correct dimensions and fit together properly and neatly. Do not glue them together yet.

Cut Out and Paste Paper and Felt Onto Surfaces

Cut out the paper, felt, and any other textiles you will be using to fit the surface you want to place it on. Then paste it on the desired surfaces with some thinly layered hot glue or other adhesive.

Once you are absolutely certain that you have all your paper and textiles on the surfaces you want, blue the outside frame of the dollhouse together.

Make a variety of decorations and create any rooms you wish! For cabinets and such, you can glue together different sides of a box, with one side having slits cut out to fold and work as a cabinet door. Put together little objects made out of cardboard such as the ones shown.

Finish Decorations

Now that you have your decorations made, it is time to finish them up and make them loop neat. Take your colored paper or textiles and cut them out to fit the surfaces of your decorations to get them to be different colors, you could also paint if you wanted to. This is also an opportunity to add interesting or themed designs to your decorations and furniture.

Putting the First Floor Together

IMG_20250311_141220.jpg

The floor of your first floor should already be in your basic structure as it is just the bottom. Here, you can place the furniture and decorations where you wish, and if you want to, you can glue them down, however, it is important to know that this will place them there essentially permanently, so if you ever want to move them around in the future or edit them, you will not be able to. If you would like to add walls between the rooms, you can cut those out and glue them on now.

Adding Additional Floors

If you want to have more than one floor, you will need pieces of cardboard cut out that fit between the walls of your house. These will be the floors. You should cut out and paste any textiles or paper and paste it on before anything, just like before. If you want to add walls between the rooms, glue them on before you glue in the floor. You will also preferably need a staircase so that it is possible to go up and down the floors realistically. You can do this by cutting out a hole in the floor before you put it in and making a staircase out of little cardboard rectangles. Once the structure of the floor is completed, you can put it in. Try to allow a good amount of space between the first and second floors. You can then also add decorations here after the floor is in place.

If you want more than just two floors, you can add more, just repeat the process for every new floor. Get creative! Add new rooms each time!

Finishing Up

Once you are happy with your floors and the overall structure of your dollhouse, you can cut or laser print out a roof to place on top. If you want to add color or texture to it, make sure to cut out and paste the paper and textiles before gluing it together. You can also simply put the roof together but not glue it to the rest of the house to make it removable.
