Cardboard IPad Sleeve

My iPad sleeve recently started ripping on one of the corners...my brother has the Griffin Elan Sleeve And me being the guy who never wants to dish out money for something new, decided to make a sleeve like his out of cardboard. It's cheap, easy, and fully customizable!

What You'll Need

1. Cardboard
2. Hot Glue Gun
3. Marker
4. Spray Paint
5. Something to Cut Cardboard

Very easy. So move on to the next step.

Trace the IPad

First thing to do is to trace the outline of the iPad (I put my iPad in a ziploc so i wouldn't get marker on the edge of it) onto a sheet of double layered cardboard.

Mark the Outside Edge

Now mark a line 1.5cm from the iPad tracing, all the way around as pictured. You can add curves to the edges if you prefer a rounded edge over a square one.

Cut Out Panels

Now cut out the first panel, cut around the outside edge, not the iPad tracing. Then set the first panel over cardboard, and trace around it. You'll need three panels all the same size, but remember the one with the iPad traced on it should be two layers of cardboard.

Cut the Spacer

Now cut around the iPad line, so that you have a "U" shaped piece of cardboard that is double layered. Slide your iPad in and make sure it fits right.

Glue Together

Glue the "U" shaped spacer to the back panel, and then glue the front panel on top. You should now have kind of a sandwich, first the back panel, then the spacer, and then the front panel. Test your iPad after the gluing to make sure it still fits.

Cut the Straps

Your finished with the sleeve, and now we just have to make the straps to hold it in. Cut a long 2cm strip, then cut two 3.5" lengths. Glue these straps to the back of the case, one on the right side, and one on the left.

Cut the Latches

Cut four 2cm x 2cm squares, and glue them on the sides of where the straps bend over. Then cut two 6cm x 2cm rectangle, and glue them over the four squares, creating two latches for the straps to slide under.

Spray Paint It

Now paint it the color of your choice. I like black. Later on I stenciled the Bone Collector deer skull on it, cause I like hunting. Once your done painting, you can enjoy using your own cardboard sleeve.
