Clay Jewellery

I tried my hand at making clay jewellery which is quite popular in India. It's dainty, a bit delicate and can be put on for any occasion. Manipulating the clay requires a bit of expertise. It hardens within an hour, so if you want to create something, then you need to handle it fast. A bit of nicely done models in clay will also come with practice. I was very carried away by the lovely pieces of flowers that can be made with Fevicryl Mould It Clay. Though this piece is not exactly perfect, yet, the total effect is beautiful. Since I have this tree in our garden, I thought of trying it out. The flower is Shuili and has a sweet smell. The petals are white in colour, and the centre and stalk is orange. The English name of this flower is Night Jasmine.

Acrylic paints: Orange, Yellow and White

Paint brushes

Knife/blade or moulding tools

Sponge

Glossy varnish

Fabric Glue

Talcum powder

A piece of plastic

Take the 2 packets, Hardener and resin. Cut out equal proportions from both

Mix the hardener and resin well and roll it into a ball. The colour should become white. While mixing, it may feel sticky to touch. Lightly dust your hands with powder and roll.

Place the clay ball over a plastic and roll it out. I have used the talcum powder base to roll it into an oblong shape.

Use a cookie cutter or any other cover to cut out a round shape from the rolled clay.

With the help of a blade or knife, cut out the shape of the flower

Give shape to the petals with your hand. Do not worry if the shape of the petals differ. In reality, all petals are not similar. Next, make a small sphere and using the back of a pen, make a hole in the centre. Attach this piece with the help of glue to the centre of the flower. Make 3 more flowers, 2 for the earrings and 1 for the ring.

Now colour all the pieces white. Then colour the centre golden yellow and finally a bit of orange in the centre.

Attach cords to the back of the centre piece (choker), use embellishments like cotton balls to beautify it. To the earrings, attach studs.

Varnish all the pieces and the jewellery is ready to wear.
