Creating a Charging Cable for Xiaomi XXQ01HM Trimmer

Trimmer.jpeg

I had lost the charging cable of this trimmer and felt like this trimmer had more life in it.

The approach taken in building a charing cable can be reused for any USB powered device having such pronged charging port.

Supplies

  1. The trimmer iself
  2. Suitable refills or cases to cover the prongs in the trimmer
  3. Old USB cable
  4. Glue stick (w or w/o gun)
  5. Cable protector (optional)

Prep the Old USB Cable

  1. Cut out the end of the USB cable (USB B or C) and split out the 4 wires (if USB 2.0)
  2. Trim off the blue and wite data wires- these are not needed.
  3. Strip the red (+5v) and black (gnd) wire with sufficient lenghts (keep excess for now)

Prep the Connector and Test for Charging

  1. Place the clean refil ends or the casing that you'd be using, cut with an additional 0.5cm excess
  2. Repeat for both the prongs
  3. Add hot glue around the casings to make the positions fixed
  4. For this trimmer, the polarity is as below, thanks to inputs from a fellow DIY'r (Polarity.jpeg)
  5. Push the stripped wires in and check for charging (Charge test.mp4)

Finalize the Connector

  1. Once the charging is tested, add pieces of sleeve or so to jam the wires in position, add some glue
  2. Add a blob of hot glue to make the connector more robust
  3. Add a cable protector to make the entire cable more robust
  4. Mark the polarity on the connector and the trimmer as there is no facility for yoke poke here- I did that with some nail polish
