Creating a Mini Chair From Wooden Clips
In this Instructable, I’ll show you how to build a miniature armchair using standard wooden clips and some glue. It's a simple project that turns two basic household objects into an awesome desktop accessory!
Supplies
- 14+ wooden clips
- Elmer's glue (or any white glue)
Taking Apart the Clips
Take apart 9 wooden clips without bending the metal or breaking the wood, and divide them into three groups so each group has 6 half-clips each (shown above). These will eventually form the seat and back. Remember to save at least two of the wire springs, as we'll be using those later to hold up the chair arms.
Glue It Together
Even out the 6 wooden clips, leaving a small gap in between each. Take your glue and squeeze some into each gap. After waiting for about a minute for the glue to seep into the gaps, firmly press them all together. Repeat this same technique for the other two groups. Now wait for a while until the glue is dry and they all hold together.
(I'll be calling these things "slides" from now on, because I have no idea what else to call them😂)
Forming the Seat
Take two of the three slides and apply more glue to them. Flip one of them over onto the other and firmly press it down. Now wait for it to dry.
The Legs, Back, and Arms
First, we'll glue on the legs. Just put glue onto all four corners of your seat (made in step 3), and grab 4 wooden clips. Evenly set them down onto each corner with glue. Wait for about 15-30 minutes until dry.
Next, lets work on the back of the chair. Take your last slide and put some glue on the two edges in the small line gap. Take your seat and legs, and put a line of glue at the end of the seat. Stick your back onto that line of glue and carefully move the chair to a wall, so the back won't become unbalanced and fall off. (Make sure that the gap in the back slide with the glue in it is flipped so it's closer to the seat than the top. This is important since the arms will go into this small gap.)
Finally, grab your last wooden clip and take it apart. Apply some glue (shown above) to the front edge of the seat. Take two wire springs and stick them onto that glue. They may become unbalanced and fall over, so it may take a little while to balance them. Now, take those two halves of that last clip and put some glue underneath their biggest half circles. This glue will hold the arms to the wire springs, making it much more stable. You can now stick the two clip halves into the small gap in the back (that has glue inside it), and onto the wire springs. This should hopefully hold everything together. Now, just let it dry for a few hours!
Finishing Up
Once it's all dry, you're done! Now you have your own mini chair. Enjoy!
