In this instructable I will be making a terrarium. This is beginner friendly and anyone can make it. I hope you have fun and enjoy making it with me.

Just a quick thing before we start is that the plants that I bought aren't a must buy. There are still other good terrarium plants out there. Those were the ones recommended by the people I bought them from, anyway let's jump to it. The first step in making your terrarium is to gather all your supplies. I already had a big glass jar and everything else needed except for the plants. I know that maybe a few of you already have suitable plants for a terrarium. It isn't a "must-buy-plant situation" but you can't really go picking up random plants in your garden... unless you do your research and know exactly what grows in your garden and if it will be suitable to plant in your terrarium. The first time I did a terrarium I just went and stuck every plant I saw into my terrarium... and surprisingly enough a few did grow!😆

From the Bottom

Now we start making one of the most important parts of the terrarium, the drainage and blockage layer. First gather you rocks and put in about 1-3cm, depending on the size of the jar. Remember that the rocks mustn't be too big. This is your drainage layer so that all the water that passes through the compost/dirt layer will sit here. Now the blockage layer. This layer is the where you lay the wire mesh (on top of the rocks) so that the compost/substrate can't get between the rocks. Cut the mesh into a rough shape of your container and lay it on the surface of the rocks.

The... Middle

Now for the middle layer. This will be the easiest layer, all you have to do is put in your compost/substrate. I am making my layer as a slight slope to give it some depth. I am also putting a little pond at the bottom of the slope and I will be using a large bottle cap. To give the bottle cap a pond like feel, it is pretty simple. Squirt some of the marine silicone in the container, smear it all around with a stick or your finger, put some dirt/potting mix in and pat it all around until it has covered the whole container in dirt. I used both dirt and the potting mix. Let it set for 24hours and put it back into the terrarium.

Planting

This is the last step, PLANTING! The step is really easy and all that is required is to put your plants in the desired place. You can use your tweezers to help you place your plants. Remember to not leave your terrarium in direct sunlight and never over water it. Give it about two sprays of water every twice a week. I hope you enjoyed making this instructable with me. Thank you
