Make Perfect Chalk Paint Without Plaster of Paris

Chalk paint gives furniture that beautiful, matte, vintage finish we all love — but store-bought versions can be pricey.

Here’s an easy, affordable DIY chalk paint recipe that works just as well — and you don’t need any plaster of Paris!

This is my go-to formula for painting furniture and décor pieces. It’s smooth, easy to mix, and gives amazing coverage every time. You can watch me mix it up in the full video tutorial on YouTube

Joint Compound, Latex Paint

Step 1: Add Your Base Paint

Pour latex paint into a container. Choose any color you like — flat or eggshell gives that soft chalky finish.

Add joint compound and mix thoroughly until smooth. This creates that creamy, chalky texture.

Apply with a brush to wood, metal, or even glass. Chalk paint gives amazing coverage and that classic matte look.
