DIY Circuit Board Charger
In this Instructable, you'll learn how to create your own custom charger for wireless earbuds. Although it looks high-tech with the electronics/circuit boards, this project is actually a really simple build that can still allow for complex additions.
Note: I'm not very experienced when it comes to electronics, so if you feel unsure about anything (especially the electrical tape), trust yourself more than me. By following this guide, you acknowledge that you are working with electrical components at your own risk. I am not responsible for any property damage, personal injury, or loss resulting from the construction or use of this device.
Supplies
- A large piece of paperboard- I got mine from a cereal box
- A ruler (inches and cm)
- Pencil
- Electrical tape
- USB type C
- Regular tape
- Scissors
- Glue
Optional:
- Circuit boards
- Electronic components
The Paperboard
Using a ruler and a pencil, draw a 4-inch square. Draw 4 cm sides (shown above). You may have to downsize it if you can't find a big enough piece of paperboard, which is still okay. Just remember to keep the angles and size precise.
You can now cut out your 12-sided shape (shown above) using scissors.
Make Space for Your USB-C
Try to find the center of your square, and mark that spot with a pencil. Measure the size of your USB and draw it's shape where the pencil spot is. With your scissors, cut out the middle and test to see if your USB-C fits.
Now, you can choose a side for your wire to come out of. Cut a hole just big enough for it to fit through.
Fold your paperboard sides outwards and tape them together. Stick the USB-C wire in and try charging your wireless earbuds. Your paperboard box is now ready to for design!
Taping It All
You can now cover your paperboard box in electrical tape- which makes it look super cool. If you don't have any electrical tape, duct tape works great too. You could even paint it your favorite color.
If you do use tape, make sure to cover it evenly. Try your best to prevent air bubbles and wrinkles.
Customize It!
You now can customize your charging port!
I personally went around the house gathering circuit boards and other electronic components from old toys and clocks. I then taped and glued them on to my charging box.
And now you're finished! You can sit back and admire your newest creation. Let me know in the comments below what you think!
