Tired of misplacing your keys? Create a sleek and functional magnetic key holder using reclaimed wood and strong neodymium magnets. This minimalist design keeps your keys organized without the need for hooks, adding a touch of elegance to your entryway.

Tips:

  1. For larger key rings or heavier items, consider using stronger or additional magnets.
  2. Customize the board by painting, staining, or adding decorative elements to match your interior decor.

Supplies

bild1.jpg
  1. Reclaimed wooden board (approximately 50 cm in length)
  2. 4 neodymium disc magnets 20x10mm - (magnetmax.de)
  3. 2 neodymium ring magnets 20x4x6 mm for wall mounting (magnetmax.de)
  4. 2 disc magnets as counterparts for wall mounting 20x3 mm (magnetmax.de)
  5. Strong adhesive (e.g., UHU Max Repair) (hygi.de)

Tools:

  1. Drill with a Forstner bit (22 mm)
  2. Sandpaper or sanding machine
  3. Protective gear (gloves and safety glasses)

Prepare the Wood

Begin by sanding the reclaimed wooden board to remove any rough edges and achieve a smooth surface. If desired, apply wood oil or varnish to enhance the wood's appearance and protect it.

Mark Magnet Positions

Decide how many key holders you want (this example uses 4). Mark the positions evenly along the board, ensuring enough space between them to prevent magnetic interference.

Drill Holes for Magnets

Using the 22 mm Forstner bit, drill holes at the marked positions to a depth that allows the magnets to sit flush with the surface. Additionally, drill holes on the back of the board for the wall-mounting magnets.

Insert Magnets

Apply adhesive to the holes and insert the neodymium magnets, ensuring they are flush with the surface. Allow the adhesive to cure as per the manufacturer's instructions.

Mounting the Key Holder

Attach the corresponding magnets or metal discs to the wall where you intend to mount the key holder. Align the board's rear magnets with those on the wall to secure it in place. This setup allows for a floating appearance without visible screws.

Final Touches

Once mounted, test the key holder by attaching your keys. The strong neodymium magnets should securely hold them in place.
