DIY Tonneau Cover Truck Bed Tent (under $50)

#1.jpg

I love overland truck camping builds, but didn't want to spend the 1500 dollars to make one, so I started searching online for a truck bed tent that utilized my existing tonneau cover, but to my surprise, it did not exist. So I went over to my barn, found some scrap 1x1 boards and slapped something together. I ended up using a black chair cover to make it into a tent (after i cut it up of course). The end result shattered my expectations of what I originally thought it would look like. So I bring to you, the internet's first tonneau cover truck bed tent.

Supplies

For this I used 4 1x1x8ft boards, Velcro, and a large black chair cover for fabric. I also used a drill, a staple gun, and some loose screws ranging from 1 inch to 2 inch.

Frame Assembly

In this picture you can see i used a "tripod" type design heavily dependent on the velcro holding it to the tonneau cover. This is all held together by screws and can be folded together nicely when you remove the center piece. Attach velcro to the top pieces to attach to the existing velcro on the cover.

Attaching the Faberic

I cut the fabric to size by holding it up to the gaps and cutting with scissors. The back piece swings upward to make a nice roof piece and door so you can get inside the truck bed, sit or use the tailgate for a table or chair. Looking back after attaching the fabric you have the end result of a truck bed tent.

Have Fun!

The best part about projects like this is getting to use them, and of course the troubleshooting that comes with that. HAVE FUN! And enjoy your cheap alternative to an overland setup
