DIY Water Filter

This is water filter made and designed by Sadie, 12yrs made from at home materials in less than 10 mins. It is easy to make and use and is suitable for river water when camping.

Supplies

Small rocks or pebbles (briefly cleaned)

Uncooked oats or rice (or both)

Charcoal (can be from the bottom of your fire)

Cotton Makeup wipes or cotton balls

The top of a 2L plastic bottle or a funnel (keep the lid)

A glass or water bottle

Getting Started

Gather all your materials and make sure the lid is on the bottle

Layering

Start to layer the materials into the top of the bottle in this order:

Cotton ( If using wipes no more than two on top of each other)

Rice or oats

Charcoal

Rocks


Using

Take the lid off and place it in the glass or water bottle, pour the dirty water in slowly and watch it drip out clean into the glass! Note: you may need to pour the water through a couple times if it is really dirty

Storing

If storing is needed put gladwrap over the top and secure it with an elastic and put the lid on the bottle
