Disaster Area/homeless Shelter/bunk Bed Lodging Plans

This project is supposed to be an alternative way to house people in disaster areas, homeless shelters, or bunk houses by setting up this in a large space like a school gym or ware house. This could also house the homeless or to make a bunk house. The main idea of the project are multiple rows of 3 leveled bunks in a "warehouse" or any larger room to protect these bunks from the elements. Along with these bunks would be larger lockers, many picnic tables on the side for a food court and restrooms. The picnic tables would provide seating for eating at in the food court. While, the lockers at the ends/between the bunks would provide storage for the guests.

The "make it temporary" part of my project is how it all can assemble with in a couple hours with a simple interlocking mechanism to lock and secure the frame, wall, and ceiling of the bunk to gather. I took inspiration for this from a strong metal shelf in my garage that uses the same mechanism along, with many other things like it. The walls, ceiling and curtain, that would go on the frame would provide privacy to the guest and would be mounted using the same simple interlocking mechanism as the frame did. This mechanism is also used on the tables and chairs too, for easy assemble/disassemble.

Concept/idea:

My first idea was a two floored bunk bed that sat on a strong metal frame that could easily be assembled with the help of multiple people and I ran with that idea adding little things to it along with some small revisions. I got this first idea from Costcos (the grocery store) large metal pallet shelf which they stack in tall long rows for maximum storage capacity. The part of this that stood out for me was that these shelfs were put together using one metal piece with some kind of hook or pin with a larger end and another piece of metal with a hole in it that got smaller as you went further down.

When you put these two together the hook or pin fall into place with gravity and locks because the hole got smaller the farther it went down. The way I used this was incorporating this simple mechanism into how everything went together; this included picnic tables, tables, chairs, of course the bunks, and any thing else that could potential use it. I also did a little research about how much weight a average pallet shelf could handle but; I mostly just assumed it hold well over 500lb based on how Costco uses it to hold multiple fridges on a single level. I also eye balled it and about two average sized people could fit on the pallet shelfs dimensions based on the length and width of the pallet shelf.

Concept Sketches and More Ideas:

Some of the add ons to the bunks are a handle to the top left/right sides of the bunk and a curtain inside of a full on door for an easier time setting up the bunk. The handle will help the guests in the bunk get in and out of the top bunk and they could also be used for other uses like as a coat hook. The curtain will shield any unwanted light into the bunk as well as being easy to disassemble if needed or can be pushed off to the side easily unlike a long bulky door that would not be used in my design.

Final Full Sketch:

This final full sketch is supposed to explain most of what my temporary project is along; with how it would be built. The final full sketch is as you can see more neater and making it easier to visualize my project as a whole. In the sketch you can see 3 rows of bunk beds and lockers. The bunk beds would have a mattress placed on top of the wire grate and blankets/ a pillow would be placed on top of the mattress. The lockers would have labels to tell the difference between who's is who and a lock to keep your stuff safe.

3D Modeling:

This is a rough 3D model of what I envisioned it would look like. The 3D model is also not to scale but it was designed on fusion 360, a Autodesk product.

Revisiting and Potential Revisions

These bunk beds could be used in many scenarios, like in disaster areas, homeless shelters, or just regular bunk houses. This project is supposed to make the disassemble/assemble of this temporary bunk bed setup easier, faster, and more compact, making it easier to ship to different parts of the world. Some of the revisions I might make on this is to make it an actual building by putting in a water proof roof on the top, bolts to bolt it to the ground, and a door instead of a curtain. The water proof roof would make the bunk bed be able to be setup outside and give more insulation to the building as a whole when heated or cooled. The bolts that would bolt the structure to the ground would give the bunk bed more stability when against the elements. The door would of course give you privacy while keeping in the warmth and acting as insulation. The interlocking mechanism that is used in my project is shown above (I did not make or design it).
