Double Housing Bunker
For this project, we paired up in a group of two for the “Make It Heal” challenge. This challenge tasked us with designing an idea that can help a community heal after a natural disaster. Our idea was to make a bunker. Our bunker was design to serve as protection from natural disasters such as tornados. The main idea for this bunker is to connect two houses using the bunker and make it a safe place for both residents in the houses. This can be helpful as it could help bring people together in difficult situations and provide the support needed.
Supplies
The supplies used were
-3d printer (PLA filament)
-Acrylic Paint
-Box cutter
-Cardboard
Creating a Sketch
To start we had to figure out what we were going to create, so we searched up what bunkers looked like to gain ideas on what to draw and what they contained. Then we brainstormed some ideas on how to make it more unique and helpful, such as multiple floors with elevator access, and multiple entrances. Here is the idea we came up with:
Finalize the Design
After some feedback, our design was changed to include better areas such as a storage room and generator; it also gained a better layout to better support people inside it. Now that we have finished my design, we now had to create it in Tinker Cad.
Create in Tinker Cad
The model was now ready to be created. So, we first found something to measure the model and see how people may fit inside, then we recreated my sketch onto Tinker Cad. We first made the main base which was a big room with a place to go downstairs, then we made the two rooms below the base which were similarly sized, then we added the stairs themselves and ladders for the entrances. There were some notable changes made to make it more functional such as changeling the elevators to ladders and making the stairs in a different room from the living area. After we finished then we printed it out and moved on to the next step
Creating the Setting
Now it was time to create the setting of the bunker, which was where the bunker was located. We started by making a base for the ground which we did using cardboard afterward we painted it green. Then I made two houses by 3d printing a model we made then we painted the house two different shades of brown, one for the roof and another for the walls. Then I made a fence to separate the houses using cardboard, we painted it brown as well. Then we put them together, the fence was on the base, cutting it in half and then the houses were placed on the sides.
Making the Bunker
After the bunker finished 3d printing we got to work putting it together. The bunker was made into three parts which were the top floor and to bottom floors. We sent all parts we were going to glue on to ensure that it wouldn’t fall apart. Then we glued them together to finish the main bunker.
Finalize
Now it is time to finalize our bunker; to start we glued all the pieces of the project together such as the bunker itself and the setting that’s on top of it. Then we added some details like a bed and some boxes for the bunker.
Conclusion
So, as a result the bunker we made was finished and was ready to turn in. The bunker served as a way for people to protect themselves in case of emergency. This project was difficult to create but was a good learning experience about different subjects.
