Drinking Vessel

The body cools itself mainly through sweating, as moisture on the skin evaporates and lowers body temperature. Sipping cool drinks also helps you to cool down and prevents dehydration. This vessel also enhances the drinking experience of amber beverages as it enables the nose to get into the act.

The design of the vessel was developed over a camping weekend when I picked up a stone from a nearby riverbed and wondered if it could be used to craft a drinking vessel from a beer can.

Rock

A small rock is used as the crafting tool. I found one which had a flat side and fitted nicely into one hand. The rock was found along a riverbed and is probably sedimentary. Not all rocks are suitable so you may have to experiment with a couple.

Move the rock across the aluminum can's top edge in a back and forth filing action. After filing away for about 100 strokes on one spot, the aluminum edge will be worn away as shown in the photos.

After wearing away one spot, rotate the can a quarter turn and file away another spot. It took about 5 minutes of filing before the cans lid could then be prized off with a small stick placed in the drink hole and levered out.

After the lid has been removed, the inner edge can be smoothed by twisting the rock around a couple of times.

Give the newly created drinking vessel a wash before pouring in a cool beverage to enjoy.

I came across a Japanese beer can (Sapporo) which is made from steel and has an aluminum top, using this can, a stronger drinking vessel can be crafted which won't dent.

The drinking vessel can also be converted into a pen holder (by adding in pens) or a coin holder (by adding in coins). I have also seen it converted into a hand warmer (by adding in hot water).
