Easy and Exact Hole Drilling Template
Needing to drill 4 holes to mount a part, came up with an easy solution to make a template that was fairly exact.
Supplies
Graphite Pencil, Clear packing tape, Paper/cardstock
Using cardstock to be a bit stiffer/durable, I traced the bottom edge of the device I needed to mount, aligning the front and 1 side to the edge of the cardstock.
I then cut out the cardstock, making sure to mark the front edge with an arrow.
On the underside of the device, I used a pencil to mark around the holes to include all the way to the edge, so I knew exactly where the edges are. Also an alignment arrow to the front.
Cut a piece of transparent packing tape, aligning the front edge of the device to the edge of the tape and sticking it down fairly square to the device.
Using my fingernail (could use a piece of hard plastic, etc) I rubbed the tape down really good to pick up the graphite.
Gently peel up the tape, and you should have an image of the holes and the edges
Align the front edge of the tape with the front edge of the cardstock and stick down
Trim the side edges where the graphite stops
Carefully cut out (maybe a hole punch if handy) the holes.
If the holes are not symmetrical, remember to use the new template 'upside down' when marking to drill.
