English-to-Hindi Translator Using Arduino Uno and OLED Display
The English-to-Hindi Translator is an electronics project developed using an Arduino Uno and a 128×64 OLED display. The project translates predefined English words and phrases into Hindi written using English letters (Roman Hindi).
The user enters an English word through the Serial Monitor of the Arduino IDE. The Arduino processes the input, finds its Hindi translation from a predefined dictionary in the program, and displays the English word and its Hindi translation on the OLED screen.
Supplies
Deshbot shield
Arduino Uno
128×64 SSD1306 I²C OLED Display
Circuit Connections
OLED PinArduino Uno Pin
VCC -5V (if supported by the OLED module)
GND - GND
SDA - A4
SCL - A5
Working Principle
The system operates in the following steps:
- The Arduino Uno initializes the OLED display and Serial communication.
- An instruction message appears on the OLED screen asking the user to enter a word.
- The user types an English word or phrase in the Serial Monitor.
- The Arduino receives the input and converts it to lowercase.
- The program checks the input against predefined English words using conditional statements.
- If a matching word is found, the corresponding Hindi translation is returned.
- The English word and its Hindi translation are displayed on the OLED screen.
- If the word is not available in the dictionary, the display shows "Not found."
Example Translations
English Word or PhraseHindi Translation (Roman Hindi)
Hello -Namaste
Thank you - Dhanyavaad
Good morning - Suprabhat
Good night - Shubh ratri
How are you? - Kaise ho?
Goodbye - Alvida
Water - Paani
Food - Khana
Friend - Dost
Love - Pyaar
Yes - Haan
No - Nahi
Program Description
The program uses the following functions:
translateToHindi()
This function compares the English input with predefined words and returns the corresponding Hindi translation in Roman letters.
setup()
This function initializes Serial communication, starts the OLED display, and displays the welcome message.
loop()
This function continuously checks for user input through the Serial Monitor. When a word is received, it translates the word and displays the result on the OLED screen.
display.display()
This function updates the OLED screen to show the text prepared by the program.
Expected Output
When the user enters hello in the Serial Monitor, the OLED display shows:
ENGLISH TO HINDI
English: hello
Hind
i: Namaste
When the user enters a word that is not included in the dictionary, the display shows "Not found."

Conclusion
The English-to-Hindi Translator demonstrates how an Arduino Uno can receive text input, process strings, search a predefined dictionary, and display results on an OLED screen. This project provides practical experience with Arduino programming, I²C communication, conditional statements, and OLED interfacing. It can be expanded by adding more words, additional languages, or an online translation service using a suitable internet-connected microcontroller.
