Eyeball Cake Pops for Thanksgiving

Eyeball cake pops aren't just for Halloween anymore! Think outside the box with these cute Thanksgiving pilgrim cake pops.

Start by making your cake pops and chilling them in the fridge until you are ready to start dipping.

Remove your cake pops from the fridge, melt your dipping chocolate or candy melts according to package directions, and dip your cake pops, gently tapping them to remove excess chocolate. Stand the cake pops upright in your styrofoam block or cake pop stand to dry.

Once the chocolate has hardened, add a drop of melted chocolate to the front of each cake pop and set an M&M in it for the pupil of your eyeballs. Again, stand the cake pops upright in your styrofoam block or cake pop stand to dry.

After the chocolate has dried, the M&Ms will be secured to the front of your cake pops. Next, squirt some blue (or green) decorating gel in a circle around each M&M. Use a small, clean paint brush to spread the gel out in a neat circle to create the iris of each eyeball cake pop. Then, use another clean paint brush and red gel food coloring to paint on the veins of each eyeball (optional). One last time, stand the cake pops upright in your styrofoam block or cake pop stand to dry. I let mine dry overnight before packing them. The decorating gel never dries hard but the M&M will help keep any plastic wrap from smudging it.

If you want to add a fun presentation element to your eyeball cake pops, display character heads behind them. I searched for clip art on the Internet, printed it out the size I needed, cut out the head shapes, and taped each head to a cake pop stick. This is how you can make your eyeball cake pops fit in with any themed party or holiday. For Halloween, I chose different spooky monsters and for Thanksgiving I used pilgrim heads.

To turn your eyeballs into Thanksgiving cake pops that are more cute than creepy, I suggest leaving off the red veins, adding an eyelid by dipping each one in peanut butter candy melts, drawing on eyelashes with food coloring markers (for girly pilgrims), and changing the colors of the eyes.
