Fountain in a Cup

I've always wanted a fountain in my crafting room. I've found that the sound of flowing water can help to calm me down, when that bug simply doesn't want to be fixed.

After some experimenting, I've come up with an idea for making a fountain in a cup. The idea is simple, it's incredibly silent, the sound is clear, plus I can move it around whenever I want.

A cup, a water pump (choose a silent one), decorative stones of your liking, and some rubber stopper (they help minimize vibrations).

I was able to recycle everything, but I think that in total it will cost you less than 20€.

Clean thoroughly the stones, as often they have some dirt that could clog the pump.

(Optional) You can put some rubber feet under the cup. It will help minimize vibrations and operation noise.

Put the pump into the cup. Make sure that it adheres well.

Now fill the the cup with the stones, leave open the space above the pump's pipe. They will help to hold still the pump. Also you will need less water to operate the pump, avoiding fluid resonance. Plus they're pretty cute.

Fill the cup with clean water. The level of water is just above the pump's pipe. If your pump is noisy try to add some more water, but be careful about spills.

Now take the cup with you and put wherever you like it most. Don't worry - if you change your idea it would be easy to move it.

Sit down, close your eyes, enjoy.

A little troubleshooting if you find your pump too noisy:

• add some more water, as they need to be completely submerged.

• add some rubber under the cup.

• try to change position, as the vibrations can expand to the underlying furniture. For example, the centre of a table is a bad position. Try near the to the supports or the legs.
