Four Strand Flat Braid

The four strand flat braid is only slightly more complicated than the three strand braid. The weave-like properties make it great for making handles and straps. It also lays the groundwork for more complicated braids, such as six, or eight strands. I even did twenty once!

Prepare Strands

You will need four strands for this tutorial. I will bunch mine together with a simple overhand knot, but feel free to use whatever best suits your project.

For the four strand flat braid, grab two strands in each hand. Twist both clockwise, and cross the two that meet in the middle. Repeat this process until you reach the desired length.

Finishing

Once you have reached the desired length, I would recommend tying it off in some way. I will be using another overhand knot, but if you have something to attach it to, there are better ways to complete your braid.
