French Toast - Pain Perdu

In France we call French toast "pain perdu", which means "lost bread" because it is made with stale bread.
It's tasty, simple and prevents throwing away bread.
Collect Ingredients and Utensils

There are hundred ways to make french toast, but for this instructable you'll need :
- stale bread
- eggs
- milk
- oil or butter (to lubricate the pan)
- 2 hollow plates (one for the milk-egg preparation, one for draining slices)
- one normal plate (for cooked slices)
- one pan
- 2 forks (using 2 forks for taking slices is less messy ;) )
- wooden utensils
Break Two Eggs

Break two eggs in the hollow plate.
Scramble them.
Add Milk

Add milk to eggs, try to get about the same volume for eggs and milk.
Mix with a fork.
Look the color and texture to know if you must add some more milk or not. It should be fifty fifty.
Lubrificate the Pan

I've used olive oil but you can use anything else (another oil or butter). use a paper towel if needed.
Dip the Slice

Dip the slice in the egg-milk mix.
Use forks to upturn it.
Let it soak a little bit, but not too much or the slice will tear apart.
Drain the Slice

Using the forks, take the slice, drain it a little and put it in the second hollow plate to drain it a little more.
Cook the Slice

Then cook the slice on two sides.
You want it to be browned.
Repeat

Cook the remaining slices.
When you are comfortable, cook several slices at the same time.
If you are running out egg/milk mix, just break and egg and mix it with some milk.
Enjoy

Today we had a great teatime snack ;)
Had what you want on slice, from sugar to maple syrup and enjoy ;)
