From Console to Computer: Xbox One Case Conversion

PHO00178.JPG

For this project I'm using a Mini ITX Motherboard ECS HDC-I2/E-350D. There are other motherboards you can use. This one is an example. If you get more expensive you can make it actually work at or near the best gaming motherboards out there but the downside is it has to be extremely small motherboards that can fit in here so i recommend to just get one of those but if you want a fun project come along.

Disconnect Wires and Stuff

PHO00030.JPG

All of these need to be disconnected. For the red and black wire, you can just pull them out—grab the small connector and pull it, and it will come off on its own.

Next, go to the internet card and do the same pull the small connector dots off. There will also be a blue wire carefully remove it as well its not a wire but I call it that.

Removing Internet Card and Unscrewing

Remove the internet card, then use a Torx T9 screwdriver to remove all the screws. Your goal is to take the metal Xbox frame out of the case.

This is the empty case we need.

Parts

PHO00115.JPG

I have every part i have the hard drive in the corner is a example. I don't have one for this build.

Motherboard Placement and Cutting

PHO00121.JPG

PHO00130.JPG

I placed the motherboard where the Xbox ports used to be. As you can see, I cut the black plastic so the ports would fit properly. I lined it up with a screw hole on the board so it has some stability, but you may want to add more support.

Put double-sided tape under the power supply, the fan, and the front I/O panel to hold them in place.

You can see I have the hard drive installed to show what it looks like, but you can place it anywhere that fits. The power switch can also go anywhere you want—there’s no specific placement required.

Putting It Together

PHO00184.JPG

The next step is to close it up. First, separate the front panel and the top from each other—it will make it easier to put everything back together.

Once they are separated, place the front panel on the front area and make sure it can stand on its own without any support. Then attach the top to it. This part can be a bit difficult, but it shouldn’t be too bad. It should snap into place once you get both sides lined up.

And that’s it—you now have a PC inside an Xbox case.
