Turn simple rice into a stunning piece of art! This colorful world map made from dyed rice is not only creative but also eco-friendly. It’s a perfect project for school exhibitions, competitions, or home decor. With just a few materials and some patience, you can create a vibrant map that looks unique and eye-catching.
Supplies
Plain rice
Food colors (blue, green, yellow, red, pink, etc.)
Brush
Glue
Wooden board
Pencil
Brush or cotton
Small bowls for coloring
Prepare the Base Background
- Use a flat paintbrush to apply a smooth, even coat of dark brown paint across the entire board.
- Let it dry completely. This dark background creates a beautiful high-contrast shadow effect between your continents.
Sketching the World Map
- Once the base coat is fully dry, use a pencil or a light-colored coloring pencil to freehand (or trace) the outlines of the world's continents onto the board.
- Focus on capturing the distinct coastal edges, as these lines will guide your rice placement.
Prepare the Different Colour Rice
Take a bowl add rice into each bag separately. Put a few drops of different colours, add a little water and mix well.
Outlining and Filling With Tweezers
- Work on one continent or region at a time. Apply a controlled layer of white craft glue inside your sketched boundaries.
- Use fine tweezers to pick up individual pieces of dyed rice.
Fill With Coloured Rice
- Continue filling in the rest of the continents, shifting colors to differentiate regions, countries, or hemispheres as you prefer.
