The "Gamer Heartbeat Neon Sign" is a handcrafted neon light project that visually combines the excitement of gaming with the vibrancy of neon art. This unique design features a glowing Heartbeat line integrated with Gamepad button symbols, symbolizing the passion and thrill that gaming brings to life. It’s more than just a decorative sign, it represents the connection between a gamer’s heart and the virtual worlds they love to explore.

This project was completely handmade in my workshop, from concept to shaping, wiring, and assembling the neon lights. It reflects both creativity and technical craftsmanship, merging art and electronics into a functional piece of decor.

Description :

The neon sign is built on a sturdy Acrylic backing sheet to ensure durability and easy mounting. The design incorporates:

  1. Heartbeat Line (ECG Waveform) : Representing excitement, energy, and the thrill of gaming sessions.
  2. Gamepad Buttons : Featuring symbols Triangle, Circle, Cross, Square icons that instantly resonate with gamers.
  3. Multi-Colored Neon Lights (Gree, Red, Blue, Purple & White) : Chosen to create contrast and a visually appealing glow in both bright and dark environments.
  4. Safe Low-Voltage Power Supply : DC 12V Ensuring energy efficiency and long-term use.

This handmade project showcases not just the aesthetics of neon signs but also highlights precision craftsmanship, electrical wiring, bending neon LED flex strips, and creative design implementation.

Uses of the Gamer Heartbeat Neon Sign :

  1. Gaming Room Decoration : Adds personality and a unique ambiance to any gaming setup.
  2. Streaming Backdrop : Enhances the visual appeal of live streams or gaming content creation.

Prepare the Neon Sign

The preparation process began with conceptualizing the design, sketching out the heartbeat line and gamepad button symbols to achieve a balanced and visually appealing layout.

Here, I first designed the heartbeat and button patterns in Photoshop and then gave a stroke around the edges to make room for backing board to fit in. Then, I made few A4 size paper cuttings and cut out the segments individually form the neon sign template to easy print.

Prepare the Template

Before starting the assembly, the design of the Gamer Heartbeat Neon Sign was digitally created and scaled to the desired size. The finalized layout, including the heartbeat wave and gamepad button symbols, was printed on paper to serve as a guiding template. This printed template was then fixed onto the backing board, allowing accurate positioning and alignment of the neon strips.

I cut out the extra white papers leaving the pattern only and then marked the guidelines onto the Acrylic board.

Prepare the Acrylic Board

The acrylic board was selected as a sturdy and transparent base to hold the neon sign securely. Measurements (18in x 62in) were taken based on the printed template to ensure the board matched the exact size of the design. Using precision cutting tools (Jigsaw), the acrylic sheet was cut smoothly to avoid rough edges or cracks. The board was then cleaned and polished, making it ready for mounting the neon strips and providing a strong, professional-looking foundation for the final sign.

Cut & Sand the Acrylic Board

After cutting the acrylic board to the required size, the edges were carefully sanded (using files and sandpapers) to smooth out any rough or sharp areas left from cutting. This step ensured a clean, polished finish and prevented accidental scratches or injuries during handling. The surface was also cleaned of dust and debris, making it perfectly ready for mounting the neon strips securely and achieving a professional final look.

Peel Out Board Lamination & Paste the Template

Once the acrylic board was cut and sanded, the protective lamination film was carefully peeled off to reveal a clean, clear surface. The printed design template was then accurately positioned and pasted onto the board using removable adhesive (paper tape). This template acted as a precise guide, ensuring proper alignment of the heartbeat line and gamepad button symbols during the placement of neon strips.

Add Connecting Wires to Lights Segments

After cutting the neon light strips to the required lengths, connecting wires were carefully attached to each segment. The wire ends were stripped and tinned with solder to ensure a strong, secure connection to the light terminals. This step ensured that all light segments were correctly linked, allowing smooth power flow and consistent illumination across the entire neon sign.

Installing Green / Triangle Neon Segment

First I drilled couple holes on the acrylic board to pass the wires, then the green or triangle-shaped neon segment was carefully positioned on the acrylic board according to the template markings. A strong, transparent adhesive (superglue) was applied evenly along the back of the neon strip to ensure a secure bond without visible glue marks. The segment was gently pressed and held in place until firmly attached, ensuring proper alignment with the overall design for a neat and professional finish.

Installing Red / Circle Neon Segment

Again, I drilled couple holes on the acrylic board to pass the wires, the, red or circle-shaped neon segment was aligned with the printed template on the acrylic board for accurate placement. Superglue was applied evenly to the back of the strip, ensuring it stayed firmly in place without leaving excess marks. The segment was carefully pressed down and adjusted to match the design outline.

Installing Blue / X-cross Neon Segment

i11.jpg

After, drilling the wire holes on the acrylic board, the blue or cross-shaped neon segment was positioned precisely on the acrylic board following the template outline. Applying superglue to the back of the strip, ensuring a strong hold without visible glue marks. The segment was then pressed gently into place and aligned carefully to maintain symmetry in the overall design, adding a vibrant blue glow to the finished neon sign.

Installing Purple / Square Neon Segment

i15.jpg

After passing the wire through drilled holes, the purple or square-shaped neon segment was carefully aligned with the printed template markings on the acrylic base. After superglue was applied evenly to the backside of the strip, ensuring firm attachment without leaving glue residue. The segment was pressed gently into place, adjusted for perfect alignment, and allowed to set, completing the precise placement of this glowing element in the overall neon design.

Installing White / Heartbeat Neon Segment

i17.jpg

i21.jpg
i22.jpg

The white neon segment, forming the main heartbeat line of the design, was positioned carefully on the acrylic board following the template path. Each curve and peak of the heartbeat pattern was adjusted precisely to maintain a smooth, flowing design. Once fixed after applying superglue, it became the central glowing element of the neon sign, bringing the entire "Gamer Heartbeat" theme to life.

Finally, I added and soldired a Female DC jack barrel connector to one of the ends of the heartbeat segment to power up the sign board from DC 12V power source.

Clean the Board - Ready for Connection

Once all the neon segments were securely glued and the template was carefully peeled off from the back, the acrylic board was thoroughly cleaned to remove any dust, adhesive residue, or paper marks. A soft cloth and mild cleaner were used to ensure a clear, polished surface without scratches. This step prepared the board for neat wiring and electrical connections, giving the sign a professional, finished look before powering it on.

Wiring - Connecting the Neon Light Wires

After the board was cleaned and prepared, the connecting wires from each neon segment were carefully arranged and linked according to the wiring plan. The positive and negative terminals were securely joined using solder to ensure strong and reliable connections. Proper cable management was maintained to avoid tangling and to keep the backside of the board neat. This step ensured that all neon segments received consistent power flow for smooth and even illumination.

Drill Mounting Holes

After assembling the neon sign, precise measurements were taken to mark the mounting points on the acrylic board. Using a fine drill bit, holes were carefully drilled to avoid cracks or rough edges on the board. These holes allow secure wall mounting or hanging of the sign, ensuring it stays firmly in place while maintaining a clean and professional appearance.
