Geocaching Guard Rail Cache

Guard Rail Caches (GRC) are a common type of cache that, as the name implies, are hidden in guard rails found along roadways. Most are just a pill bottle or magnetic key holder. This cache mimics the large nuts that are on the bolts holding the guardrail sections together. This 3D printed nut fits on those bolts.

Design Step One

Measurements were taken to create a nut similar to those on a guard rail. The solid form nut was then printed and adjustments were made to get a good fit.

Design Step Two

One end of the nut will be exposed where the log will be inserted so an end cap is created to cover the hollow space.

Design Step Three

The hollow space for the log is created to allow a small strip of paper to be coiled inside.

The 3D printed ones look similar to the real nuts.
