Grandma's Delicious Garlic Rolls, Traditional Plus Vegan Recipes

This recipe makes soft delicious rolls that have been passed down from my great-great-grandmother. They can be used as bread, burger buns, and much more. I have adapted my family's traditional recipe to include a vegan version which is equally appetizing.

Supplies

For the rolls:

Traditional / Vegan

  1. 3 tsp yeast
  2. 2-3 tbsp white granulated sugar
  3. 1 cup of warm milk / water or plant milk of choice
  4. 2 large eggs / omit eggs or use egg substitute
  5. 2 tbsp melted butter / light olive oil
  6. 3-4 cups of flour
  7. 1/2 tsp salt

For the garlic infused oil:

  1. 3 cloves of Garlic, crushed
  2. 3 tbsp Sunflower oil
  3. 1 tbsp fresh Dill, chopped
  4. 1 tbsp fresh Parsley, chopped

The Yeast Mixture

Add the yeast and the sugar to a medium large bowl and mix well, then add the milk or water and cover with a cloth for 15 to 30 minutes or until frothy. Cover with a cloth and not any kind of non-porous material such as plastic wrap.

Finishing the Dough

Add butter, salt and eggs to the yeast mixture. Mix well. Add the flour in small amounts and stir with a fork until the dough becomes a neat ball. About halfway through mixing in the flour, if it is thick enough, you can use your hands and knead the flour into the dough.

Rising

Let rise in a bowl covered with a cloth for about 15 to 30 minutes or until doubled in size.

Forming

Form the risen dough into 6-9 individual rolls and place on an oiled baking sheet. Let rise again for about 10 minutes.

Baking

After the rolls are done rising, bake for 25-30 minutes at 350°F. While they are baking, mix the garlic, oil, parsley and dill in a small bowl.

Finishing Touches

Immediately after taking the rolls from the oven, brush on the garlic oil mixture on top of the rolls with a pastry brush and let it rest for about 5 minutes. Serve it to friends and family. Enjoy!
