Grill Grate Scraper (Modified Spatula)
With wire brushes being recalled, there has to be a better way to clean a grill grate. I've tried a pumice stone among other things. But this is what worked for me finally.
Supplies
Spatula and brush from $Tree. File or grinder.
Measure
Get a spatula from $Tree, take it out to your grill and mark the positions of the individual grates.
Grind
Using a grinder, cut notches into the spatula. You could use a hand file also, but it would take forever.
Test the Fit
Test the fit. Put on the final touches with the grinder.
Nice and Clean
What works best for me is after food is cooked, scrape the grate, then use the $tree grill brush while grate is still hot. I'm guessing most people use this incorrectly. The grill brush is first dipped into water, then run it across the grill grates. The sizzle from the water will help clear the grease and build up, giving you a nearly perfect grilling surface. WORD OF WARNING!! The wet grill brush will cause lots of steam. Make sure you are wearing barbeque mitts or oven mitts so you don't get burned by it.
