I started with the blade. I drew the shape and then started adding various details. From there I created a 3D models from the sketches. I used a program called Gearotic to create the gear design. From there I used Vectric Aspire to create the gears in 3D format. I repeated the process of all of the components. I had to ensure all parts were properly spaced and able to move before machining started.

The parts were machined using a CNC router over a period of months. As parts were completed, they were carefully sanded and painted. Many parts had to be masked while painting. The staff was stained dark to give it an ancient look.

The exciting part when it all comes together. The sides of two sections were glued glued together and the air hose fittings were epoxied into place. The blade section was fastened togetherat i using connecting bolts so it could be assembled easier as well a be repaired if neccessary. The lacking mechanism and springs were installed, along with the blade and gears. The opposite side was carefully alligned and pushed intere o place. Before the bolts were installed, I made sure all parts moved as they should. The bolts were installed and all assemblies were put together.

The Cape

A cape was made from a pattern I found online and took to a local stationary store to have printed. I cut the pattern and sewed the cape.
