Handy Dandy Welded Tool Box!!!

I will be teaching you how to weld a tool box togher. I got inspired by my dad to do this. I have seen him welding in my garage. Welding is a very useful skill to know how to learn and it would be great if more people knew how to do this skill.

Supplies

  1. stainless steel.
  2. metal brush.
  3. Angle Grind.
  4. gloves.
  5. welding helmet.
  6. gas "I will be using a mixture of 75% argon and 25% Carbon dioxide."
  7. welder box "I will be using a Mig welder."
  8. safety glasses.
  9. welding meganet.
  10. clamp.
  11. welding bench"mandatory".
  12. measuring angel.
  13. metal sheet thickness.
  14. spray paint

Preparing the Pieces.

Measure your steel and cut to this measurements/ 14.6" length by 4.8" height x3, 3.9" length by 4.8" height x2, 5" height by 14.6" length cut with angle grinder.

Prep Edges.

Using the grinder, shave edges to make it easier for the weld to stick.

Weld.

First assemble the box with welding magnets to see what the final result will look like.

  1. Use welding magnets to make your walls 90 degrees.
  2. Weld inside and to bottom.
  3. Weld front and back pieces to the sides and bottom.
  4. Weld hinge to back.
  5. Weld lid to hinge.

Get Ready for Painting

Grind the edges to get ready for the paint.

Welding Tips.

Wear proper gear. welding face shield, safety glasses and gloves.

Steady + smooth hands help.

Keep wrist that holds welder locked. move along, don't bend wrist.

Go slow and steady.

Choose spray paint (that works on metal) of your choice you will want to do two

my choice was red.

Attach Your Handles

Measure the length of the handle and drill a hole in your box to attach your handle

Reflection

i learned that welding takes patience, takes time and You have to go slow with welding. I also learned that welding takes lots of practice to get good at it. I had lots of fun doing this project with my dad and I will definitely do this again. I definitely think that having steady hands was the most difficult part.
