Hinged Folding Shed

I wanted to make assembling buildings easier and decided to incorporate hinges and folding into my design to make assembly easier. I decided to make a shed to see if this is viable.

Make Your Original Design

The first step to making a hinged and easy to fold design is to have a design that you want to make fold. In this case I made a 10x12 shed, but downscaled from the one in my yard.

Make a Net of Your Design

In this step you will convert your design into a 2D net which you will then add hinges to. This is similar to precast concrete forms because they also rely on a 2D net. To make this net, you will separate everything at a different angle, such as walls and roof sections, and then you will rotate the parts to lay flat on a plane. This will allow you to place hinges that will let your building be folded together easily. These hinges will make assembly much easier than a regular form.

Adding Hinges to Your Net

I created a small hinge that will allow all of these forms to simply be folded together to create the shed.

This assembly is quite easy with the hinges and lets you just swing the parts into place. Unfortunatley, when assembling this model my hinges broke and I had to superglue them into place. Bambu studio also failed me and did not print one of the ceiling panels, so the model has a new skylight. I folded each part into place and superglued it.
