Save 2 Sets of 12 Caps Each of a Different Color

We used orange(from orange juice) and blue(from 2% milk).

Cut Felt Circles

You'll need 24 felt circles for the bottoms of your checkers

carefully trace the milk caps onto the felt

carefully cut the circles tight just inside the lines

Mix Filler for Checkers

take about 2 cups of clean sand and a 1/2 cup of white glue to make a mud like mixture to fill all 24 caps. Fill caps level with mix and top with felt circles and allow to dry at least overnight

Cut a Board

you could easily use a store bought board at this point

I found a piece of scrap plywood appx 16" x 16"

I put 2 coats of primer and two coats of the lighter color paint on board

divide your board equally into 8 rows and columns

In my example I used 1.5"x 1.5 " squares then (i used a permanent orange marker) color or paint every other square the darker color.finish with 2 coats of polyurethane
