In my video, I walk you through the exact recipe, mixing ratios, and side-by-side comparison between homemade and store-bought Mod Podge. You’ll see how each version performs on real projects and which one gives the best results.
Supplies
Homemade Mod Podge (Matte Finish):
Elmer’s School Glue (or any white PVA glue)
Water
Small airtight jar or container (Dollar Store or reuse old jars)
Spoon or stir stick for mixing
Homemade Mod Podge (Glossy or Satin Finish):
Elmer’s School Glue
Water
Polycrylic Sealer (satin or gloss, depending on preference)
Small airtight jar or container
Measuring cups (½ cup, ¼ cup)
Tablespoon
Paper towel or cloth (to keep workspace clean)
Optional funnel or spouted cup (for easier pouring)
Mix Your Homemade Mod Podge
Combine white glue and water
Shake or stir well until completely blended.
For a glossy or satin finish, add a small amount of polycrylic sealer to your mixture.
Test and Use
Use your homemade Mod Podge on paper, fabric, or simple craft projects.
It works beautifully for basic decoupage and kids’ crafts but if you want professional, long-lasting results or need to do image transfers, store-bought Mod Podge still gives the best finish.
