How to Make the Stratojet Paper Airplane

Instructables 35 028.jpg
Fast, long range and landing gear-equipped, the Stratojet is a good interim paper airplane for anyone who already operates the Phantom, or who wants an excellent multi-role airplane.

TAA USAF Designation: F201-1

Materials

Required:
1 Piece of 8.5 by 11 inch Paper
Tape
Optional:
Pencil
Ruler

Begin Folding

Fold your paper along its length. Then pull the corner down to the center. Repeat on the other side.

Nose Folding

Pull the nose downwards along the bottom of the corner folds. Then pull the paper into the center again, although not completely so as to keep the nose blunt. These steps should make the paper resemble a Super Dart (https://www.instructables.com/id/How-To-Make-The-Super-Dart-Paper-Airplane/) in production.

Open Your Folds

Now open your paper back up to what it looked like at the end of Step 2, this time with several new creases. In reverse order of Step 3, undo all the folds you made there.

Refold Along the Creases

Fold your paper down along the creases created in Step 3, however, do not follow the fold lines as they were in Step 3.

Fold the "sweep" crease (as seen in Picture #1 here) down. Repeat on the other side. Then fold and flatten the "pocket" of paper down along the center line of the paper. When this is flattened, fold the "lock" under.

Fold Your Wings

From the front to the back, fold the wing root. It should only just cross over where the internal triangle is.

Taping

Tape the back of your Stratojet's fuselage together at its rear.

Fold the Landing Gear

Fold the landing gear up by folding the under wing flaps parallel to the fuselage. Unfold them when construction is complete. Then tape the landing gear to the bottom of the airfoil.

Flight

Instructables 35 028.jpg
No different from most other darts in general, the Stratojet is a plane capable of high speed and long range. It is different however, in its ability to fly at slower speeds.

Like the similar Phantom, the Stratojet requires different launch techniques for different flight characteristics. At launch, give it a medium to high speed throw for maximum range and speed. For slow flight, only a medium speed throw is needed.
