During the time that I teach Bushcraft and survival I come across a lot of people saying they have used Flint and Steel.
Ferrocerium Rod

This is not Flint and Steel.
This is called a Ferrocerium Rod, These are man made and designed to produce a lot higher temperatures for a greater chance of starting a fire.

A Flint & Steel is as it says in the name.
A peace of Steel "high carbon" and a peace of Flint with a sharp edge.
