How to Create a Useful Invention

Inventions are one of the most common (and useful) things. Chairs are an invention, tables are an invention, and even the computer, tablet, or phone you are reading this tutorial on is an invention.

But have you ever wondered how to make a good and useful invention? This instructable will guide you how.

Ask a Question

Ask yourself a question that hasn't been solved by an invention yet, like "How do I live on Venus?"

Google It

Google solutions for your question. If there are none, this means you did a good job on your question. But if there are some, revise your question. For example, a base on Venus must float due to the atmospheric pressure, so change your question to "How do I live on Venus on the surface?"

Break It Up

If you need to, break up your question into smaller "mini-questions". For example, the question "How do I live on Venus on the surface?" can be broken up into questions like "How to deal with atmospheric pressure on Venus?", "How to get water on Venus?", and "How to breathe on Venus?"

Research

Think of info needed to answer the question, then google it. For example, you want to know the atoms that water is made of, in case these atoms are on Venus. Use this info to find a solution.

Consider Solutions

If you can, try to consider 3-10 solutions and choose the best one. If you can only think of one solution, that's okay!

Model It

Model your plan and put labels on what each part does. I prefer Tinkercad, as it is a 3D editor, you can easily put labels, and it is free. Also, there is a physics simulator that allows for interactivity.

Collect Feedback

Ask a group what works in the invention and how to improve it. That way, you can use their suggestions in your invention!
