Identifying Rats

The main differences between rats and mice are as follows: Rats are larger around 12-18 inches in size and have hair-less tails and have a shorter snout. Mice are smaller and around 5-8 inches with hairy tales and have a more pointed snout. You can see how much larger the rats are in the image with the garbage bags and you can see their tails are hairless. Next to it we have attached an image of a mouse and you can see the tail has hair.

Identifying Rodent Entry Points

As you can see, even a relatively small hole like this is a perfect entry point for a rat or a mouse. In fact, a baby to adult rat can fit 1/3 to 1/2 inch size holes because their skull is hard but their body is flexible so anything their snout and head fit through their body will conform to fit through too. A mouse can fit through 1/4 of an inch roughly the size of a dime.

Putting Thermo Trim Around Your Garage Door

We added the supplies above and there are various types of Thermo trim and rubber seals but the rodent proof one will help you with rodent proofing. This garage door had a rubber trim that was broken and uneven.

Adding Thermotrim

To seal all entry points you can install Thermotrim intially. And later seal it down at the bottom.

Caulking Entry Points Creating Seals

Using caulking and Thermotrim, we have sealed the entry points as you can see, and you should too.

Adding a New Garage Seal

Using a rodent proof seal will ensure that rodents cannot go through the space in the door. We added this here as you can see and so can you.
