How to Do Laundry
How to complete doing your laundry
Supplies
Gather Your Supplies, such as dirty clothes, laundry detergent, and a laundry basket
Sort Your Laundry
Separate clothes by color or by lights vs. darks, into different piles, depending on how much you have of each. You can also sort clothes by fabric type, but that is optional
Check Pockets and Close Zippers
Remove all items from any pockets and zip zippers to prevent damage.
Load the Washing Machine
Make sure to only load one load at a time. Don’t overload the washer, and make sure to spread clothes evenly
Add Detergent
Find to where the detergent goes and determine how much to use. On my washer, it is located near the top on the left side, with a slide-out where the detergent can be added. This may vary by washing machine. Usually, there will be a line that shows the max amount of detergent to use. I usually fill just under the max amount of detergent line.
Select Wash Settings
Select the water temperature on your washer. Lighter colors will be set to warm, and darker colors will be set to cold. The cycle type will most likely be set to normal. However, for example, if you are washing large blankets then you could set your cycle type to bulky.
Start the Washer
Close the lid or door, depending on what type of washer you have, and press start on the machine.
Transfer Clothes to the Dryer
Wait for the cycle to end. Take clothes out of the dryer and shake out the clothes to make sure there is nothing that was left in any pockets. Transfer clothes to the dryer.
Select Dryer Settings
Set the heat level on the dryer, usually will be set to normal. Depending on the washer, you may just be able to turn it on and press start. If it is a larger and bulkier load, setting can be set to bulky.
Clean the Lint Trap
After the dryer cycle has been completed, take the clothes out of the dryer and place them in a laundry basket. Next, take the lint trap out of the dryer and clean off any lint that was collected during the cycle. Dispose of the lint in a garbage can.
Fold & Put Away Clothes
By putting clothes away immediately, you can avoid wrinkles. Gather hangers for shirts and sweatshirts, and fold pants as needed. Match up any socks and pair them together. Once everything has been put in its respective place, you have completed your laundry!
