How to Make Alien Hat at Your Home

Hi everyone, Hope you are doing great! In this instructables i will show you how you can make this wearable alien hat at your home with some simple materials.

This alien themed hat is made to showcase the creativity of hobbyists and let others know we can make funky things that can be used practically too.

When it comes to a house party or halloween party its always a tricky choice to figure out what to wear or how to amaze and stand out from others.

Most of them will spend hours together to search online and rest of the diy hobbyists like me will start to breainstorm as what can i build by myself!

This is not just a fancy hat but you can also wear it as a normal hat and get all the benefits like protection from sun exposure, meanwhile also grabbibg the attention of the viewers.

Before building this i had to go through some intensive research online to check if this design exists elsewhere on the internet, But to my surprise there werent any.

I had to build several prototypes before coming up with this final and practical design.

Anyone can build this if they can follow my simple yet detailed information about making this, So without further due lets build this project

Now we will start this by gathering the materials required for this project

These are the supplies that we will need to make this alien hat, If you keep all of the below items hand you can expect a quick build

Cardboard

Color paper

Popsicle stick

Art cutter

Aluminum Foil

Paper

Super glue

Hot glue

Paint brush and paint

Pen and Ruler

Compass

Marker

Scissors

The most important part of the hat is the hat itself! I mean the base part where we fit the head.

I made this with the help of cardboard, I strongly recommend to use only cardboard since this has lot of advantages that other materials cant provide.

I will use the packaging box cardboard and the diameter was over 30cm, i used a large plate to mark the outer circle for this

Then i cut across the marked lined with art cutter, Make sure you maintain a great surface finish during the process because later we will be adding foil.

After the base is complete, if you dont have the mid point of circle marked take the ruler and draw lines in shape of + plus.

Mark a dot where the lines join and we have the center point, Now considering the size of the hat you wear draw the circle.

Each one of us has different size head, mine was a lot bigger than ohers, so you may need a smaller size!

I have marked 4 circles in total and these are for both big and small size head, chosse accordingly.

Now to make the head fot we need a groove, to make this cut through the inner circle as shown here and manually one by one you have to raise it, refer the last image of this step to see how it looks.

The top part i would like to say a small hump that should be at the top of the hat will not stay still by itself we need some sort of supports for that.

I cut a ring on cardboard slighlty larger than the cut piece(previously from base of hat) this ring must be strong enough so i joined 2 rings together.

From the inside push this ring and you will end up like as shown in the step above, use super glue or hot glue to keep the ring in place.

Now the hat from mere cardboard is ready and to make it look like alien ship i will use the aluminum foil.

Since we all know most of the alien ships are silver in color! So i will first apply layer of glue on all the top surface of this cardboard hat first.

Now wrap the aluminum foil over this hat and gently press the foil layers with card or some soft object so the adhesion becomes good.

This will take some time to dry completely, Meanwhile after the top portion is dry repeat the same step for bottom part of hat also.

After this is dry we can head over to some decorations part.

This will add more life to the alien hat and makes it look much more like a alien hat.

I will use color paper to decorate the hat and the choice of colors that i made suits soo well here, If you are willing to have other colors you can add that too.

Make the circles of 2 different sizes and mark the same on color paper and later using scissors cut them.

Repeat the same steps for other colors also and once you have all the circles ready, Bring out your hat and drop few hot glue on the hat and gently place these circles.

Allow to dry, Now you may ask why hot glue here?

That is because it gives instant results and if we are using glue here it would take lots of time to stick since aluminum foil is different from paper.

Follow the steps like shown and now you have the alien hat that looks almost but the alien is missing and we will do it in the next step.

The choice of colors was based on the actual color of alien as we see in movies! Most of them showed red so i will be using green colors

The green color i had in color paper was very light so i wanted darker and much more highlighted color, so i chose to paint it.

I folded the chart paper(white color) 4 time and each layer was glued at first, Now untill it becomes dry you can paint the top layer with green color

I chose fabric paint and painted with paint brush, 2 coats of paint was enough.

Now in a white sheet of paper, Draw the alien face and eyes, If you are ok with it place this paper on green painted paper and draw over the same lines to create a trace.

Cut across the marked lines, and now draw the eyes and paint the inside with black, here you can simply use black paper also.

Glue these eyes to the face with paper glue and now the alien face is ready and to make it sit on the hat you need a support and we will be using popsicle stick.

Glue the popsicle stick first and after it is dry stick this alien face to it.

Dont you think we are missing something? Yes Yes its the antenna.

How can one forget antenna on an alien! anyways they need the most when they arrive here on earth to communicate to their galaxy.

So to make the antennas i will again use aluminum foil that is wrapped over paper tube, First take a sheet of paper and roll it and seal the edges with glue.

Now take foil and wrap over it, roll a sheet of foil to make a ball and with hot glue stick these 2 parts and repeat the same step for other antenna also.

Now glue these antannas to the alien face that we made earlier, Now we have the alien hat almost ready and i cant wait to wear them!

Like a Normal hat you can wear this, since the hat is wide than the head it will protect your face from sunlight too, and always remember you will defintely be complimented by many when you wear this on your head.

The actual hat looks more beautiful in the real life, Now you can show it off to your friends.

Additionally you can add a small string at the bottom(optional) if you are dancing or something so that it will ramain on your head.
