How to Make a Planter Out of an Old Exhaust Fan Housing
This exhaust fan housing has been in my yard since the 2000s. It is a pain. I finally figured out what to do with it.
This is just a really simple way of putting to good use any object capable of holding soil, which is otherwise essentially useless to you. Make a planter that you can plant stuff in.
Supplies
Anything capable of holding an amount of soil enough to support a plant, such as an exhaust fan housing, a semi-intact plastic container, or an old tire.
- some soil
- some time
- some plants
- some water
- some mulch
and later on something nice to look at or something that is nice to eat. Yum.
Obtain the Container Referred to Herein
This is my container of choice.
Find a Place to Put the Container Referred to Herein
Find a nice level weed free patch of dirt to plop your container on. ideally it should get just enough sun. depends on what you plant.
Plop + Fill the Container Referred to Herein
position and fill the container with airy composty soil with good nutrition. mulch as needed.
Plant Stuff in the Container Referred to Herein
plant some plants. i chose to put some rain lilies because they are tubers that spread so i wanted to have them somewhat under control. also some random purple flower i found on the side of the road near my home. Both are doing well.
Look at It and Admire It
look at it. admire it. if it gets in the way in the future, move it.
