Rack Piston Seal Replacement
Using a pick, carefully remove the old piston seal. Then using a roll of plastic, make a cone to slide on a the new piston real, be sure to lubricate the seal with ATF. Then once installed into the grove, wrap the plastic around the seal and hose clamp it for bit to make sure it goes back to its original size. This is very important.
Pinion Seals
Install the pinion o-ring and seal
Inner Seal
Lubricate the inner seal and install with a seal driver
Install the Rack
Wrap the splined end of the rack with electrical tape to protect the seal during installation. lubricate entire rack with ATF then tap the rack into place, through the inner seal. Once rack is installed, remove all the electrical tape.
Outer Seal
Wrap just the end of the rack with electrical tape, then install outer seal with its components and tap them in with a large socket.
Pinion Install
Apply grease the springs on the rack and the pinion. Then install the minion mating it to the splines on the rack.
Final Steps
Install the red of the goodies into the front of the rack along with the 2 thread caps and torque them to spec. Then reinstall all of the lines. Now your rack rebuild is essentially complete. Install the rack back into the vehicle, you can install the tie rods before or after its in the car.
