How to Tie a Clove Hitch

Tying a clove hitch is an invaluably useful skill when lashing. It can be used for both starting and finishing a lash, making it extremely versatile.
Loop Rope Around Object

The direction is not particularly important, just make sure you don't cross anything yet.

You want to cross the ropes on top to form an X as shown in the picture.
Finish Hitch

Loop the rope around one more time, this time feeding it underneath the X you made in the previous step. You have now successfully tied a clove hitch!
