How to See Your Embroidery Files on the Janome 350

So now I'm working on some basic embroidery stuff.

Folks, including myself, have been seeing their files in the Janome 350 LCD interface, and others have not.

So, NERDmeister that I am...

I did a bit of research to try and figure out the issue.

I'm using one of these machines at TechShop San Jose - www.techshop.ws

Is It a Memory Issue?

I suspected that the Janome 350 was not able to recognize USB sticks with large memories.

I'd had success seeing my directories and files using a 1Gig USB stick.

I'd had NO success seeing my directories and files using a 4Gig USB stick.

It Doesn't Seem to Be...

But then, I was able to see my directories and files when I used a 32Gig USB stick.

What gives?

So I Checked the File System on My USB Sticks

So I selected the USB stick (F: drive in this screenshot) and Right-Clicked it.

I then selected the Properties option, and checked the File System type...

In the second screenshot here, the Successful 1Gig USB stick's File System shows as FAT.

The Janome 350 was able to recognize the directories and files.

I Checked the 4Gig USB Stick...

On this one, I again selected the drive, Right-Clicked it, then selected the Properties option.

Here's the screenshot from Properties.

The file system shows as NTFS.

The Janome 350 was NOT able to recognize the directories and  files on this USB stick.

I Checked the 32Gig USB Stick...

And on this one, I again selected the drive, Right-Clicked it, then selected the Properties option.

The File System shows as FAT32.

And with this 32Gig USB stick, I was able to see my folders and files on the Janome 350.

So the File System Type Looks Like the Issue

Here's a screen shots of the folders and files as seen in Windows 7.

So it appears that the Janome 350 can only find the embroidery .jef files from the /EmbF5/MyDesign directory in a FAT or FAT32 file system.

Let me know if you're catching this issue, and any other info that might be added to this Instructable...
