Hydro Dipped Shoes

hi my name is Tessa I love making crafts, painting and designing! my brother entered a house making competition and that inspired me to find a competition that I could do, he helped me find this competition and I'm so excited to be here!! this project has helped me learn so much especially mixing colors and exploring new painting techniques. I really hope that these shoes will catch your eye. just to let you know what really matters to me is the fun of the process not the money.
Supplies

1.Shoes
2.Spray paint
3.tape
4.water
5.bin
6.acetone
7.cotton balls/cotton swabs
8.razor
9.paper towel/napkin
Tape the Shoes

Tape up the parts of the shoe you do not want painted. Make sure to crease it; you can use your thumbnail. If there is a Nike logo you want to keep white, cover it with tape and use a razor to cut it in the logo's shape. I did that with the toe box. Make sure that you take out the sole and that you tape the inside of the shoes so that no paint can get in.
Unlace Shoes and Fill Bin With Water

Unlace your shoes. Grab a bin that is big enough to fully submerge your shoes in the water.
Add Spray Paint to the Water

Hold your can of spray paint at an angle and do a long, 10-second or more spray in the middle, depending on what you want your shoes to look like. Grab your next can and repeat for as many colors as you want. I also sprayed in the corners and sides to mix it a bit more. Spray paint until the spray paint completely covers the water so no gaps are showing.
Start Dipping You Shoes

Now comes my favorite part: dipping the shoes! Start from an angle and go from the toe to the heel until the whole shoe is submerged in the water. Swish the water until all the paint collects along the sides. Carefully lift the shoe out of the water and place it right side up on a napkin/paper towel. Repeat the process with the other shoe. Let them dry overnight.
Taking the Tape Off the Shoes

Peel off the tape! (It's really satisfying.)
Clean Up!

After you have taken off the tape, grab some cotton balls or cotton swabs. Get some acetone on your cotton swabs or cotton balls and carefully wipe away any paint that got through the tape. You may need to scrape it off with your fingernail because acetone just softens it up a little
Lace-up

Lace them up and inspect your wonderful creation!
